DIY all the way
April 11, 2011 - Linda Lobeck
It's spring and my husband and I are moving forward to get our home in order and deal with a list of do-it-yourself (DIY) projects we (he) has to do. It's kind of a catchy thing. You see other people out in their yards cleaning up or spring cleaning their garage, and you get the itch to go home and do the same.
As a homeowner, it's a continual process each year. And unless you have unlimited funds, you do a little at a time. My biggest weakness is watching DIY shows on television and getting some good ideas. Then I start making a list and casually leave it on the table where he can see it. It's really not my fault. I'm only doing what my mother told me to do...I married a handy guy.
Last year's projects included painting two bedrooms, cleaning carpeting, and updating the bathroom with new flooring, fixtures, and repainting. This year, the kitchen was the big job with new flooring, painting, fixtures and finally after 23 years, new appliances. We are also repainting the living room and another bedroom.
I have to try and get all this in before my handy guy's attention turns to yard work and wanting to play tennis with his gang at City Park. But I may be running out of time. The other day I believe I heard him mutter that he was going to make sure that he blocked HGTV for good!
Little does he know, I still have a few more projects on my list left to go before summer comes. Maybe he won't mind too much if I let him buy some kind of new power tool!
