Marquart leaves Oak Forest

April 18, 2011 - Jim Anderson
John Marquart, former city manager in Iron Mountain, has left his job as city administrator in Oak Forest, Ill.

According to Oak Forest’s city website, Marquart’s resignation was effective April 1. He is returning to Iron Mountain to work in the private sector, the website reported.

Marquart came to Oak Forest from Iron Mountain in August 2008. Less than three years later, he apparently left Oak Forest on good terms.

In reporting Marquart’s resignation, the Southtown Star’s Michael Drakulich quoted Alderman Paul Wechet as saying Marquart was good at running the city’s day-to-day operations.

“John got along with everyone,” Wechet said. “He related well to everyone.” Mayor Hank Kuspa had proposed cutting Marquart’s position last year, but later backed off, the newspaper said.

“He was a true professional. He will be sorely missed,” Kuspa told the Southtown Star (Chicago Sun-Times).

Marquart began serving as Iron Mountain city manager in April 2004, serving a tenure that was marked in its final year by divided city council views of his performance.
