| | Waste of moneyApril 21, 2011 - Lisa ReedA recount in the Wisconsin Supreme Court will cost taxpayers a lot of money. Challenger JoAnne Kloppenburg requested the statewide recount on Wednesday after losing by 7,316 votes. Because she lost by a percentage of votes, she can request a recount at the expense of local governments. The recount means clerks in all municipalities in the state must recount all ballots; thus more time away from everyday duties. Estimates for the recount note it will cost Milwaukee County alone about $500,000. Kloppenburg was initially declared the winner of the April 5 election until the Waukesha County clerk noted two days later that she failed to report 14,000 votes, which led to a victory for Prosser. On a different note, Waukesha County clerk Kathy Nickolaus should be recalled. Glad to hear she is being investigated. She use to work for Prosser, and this isn’t the first big boo boo of hers as clerk. Problems with her election administration date back to 2004, which is another story for another time. | in: News, Blogs & Events Web |
