Guard geese

June 8, 2011 - Nikki Younk
When I own my own home some day, I refuse to protect it with a burglar alarm, a dog, or even a barbed wire fence.

I'm going to have guard geese.

For anyone who's had the good fortune to never come in close contact with a full-grown goose, let me make clear to you that they are the meanest, most vicious creatures alive. And, they're scared of absolutely nothing.

Currently, I have two families of Canadian geese living in my back yard. One family has about seven babies and the other has about three babies. When the adults aren't busy fighting each other, they take it upon themselves to frighten me.

I'll be driving down the alley in a very large, very scary (to an animal, at least) vehicle, when one of the daddy geese will come charging at me with fire in his eyes. He'll give a few hisses, as well. When I get out of the vehicle, he sometimes dares to charge at me again. Of course, I'm the one who backs down.

I guess he does what he can to protect the little ones. I just wish I could get off of his hit list.
