Please don’t litter

April 21, 2009 - Lisa Reed
This week is Earth Week and what better time to remind people not to litter. My husband and I take a walk together in the spring and the fall to pick up garbage alongside the road that abuts to our property. What I don’t get is how that many beer and soda cans, beer bottles, fast food bags and containers, cigarette packages, and whatever else we have found alongside the road manage to get into roadway ditches. Yes I know people just throw their trash out their car window or drop it while they are walking, but littering is illegal. It doesn’t matter who you are or where you are, it is still illegal. We are not quite done with the two mile stretch of road where we pick up garbage, and we already have two large garbage bags filled. I would like to put up a sign that says ‘No littering,’ but my husband says that will just make people litter more. Now I am not a ‘go green’ person, but I really think everyone should learn not to litter. It’s not good for the groundwater and it doesn’t look nice to see all that litter alongside the road. If you litter, which includes throwing garbage out your car window, please stop.
