Tasty fair foods and stupid fun

August 15, 2011 - Lisa Reed
I thought I would blog about new fair foods I did try at the Wisconsin State Fair this past weekend. I was on a mission to try several of the new items and succeeded in finding and taste testing all of them. Let me begin by saying the two best things I ate at the fair were the Fried Frito Pie and Deep Fried Peanut Butter and Jelly on a stick. The Frito Pie was chili rolled in crushed Fritos and then fried and served with sour cream. It was delicious! The Deep Fried Peanut Butter and Jelly was served hot and fresh and was ooey gooey good! Too bad I only got one bite of that. I also had a Deep Fried Snickers candy bar, which was OK. The girls and I also tried Chocolate-Covered Bacon, which was served cold, so not as good as I thought it could have been if it was hot. Good thing I only had a bite of that! I even tried the Deep Fried Butter, which was melted butter in a dough ball. Not so good. I ended up giving that to an unknown couple that really wanted to try it. Of course, I also had a piece of corn on the cob with butter and a little salt. Who can go to the Wisconsin fair and not even at least try the corn? I have to say it was over the hill and not so good! The last thing I ate was Deep Fried Beer. This was mini raviolis with beer in them and served with cheese sauce. I have to say I was not that impressed. But one had to laugh if they saw how far the beer shot out of the ravioli when I bit into it! Other fun things at the fair were one being able to step in Ocean Spray cranberries just like the commercial. I didn’t actually do this, but the two sisters with us did. A carney guessed my age and was off by six years (he guessed me as younger than I am), so I won a small stuffed dolphin. Or you could say I paid $3 for it. LOL. One really stupid thing we all did was pay $1 to see a woman that was supposedly half woman and half snake. I guess there was a mirror and it was an optical illusion, but the trick sure fooled us to pay to see it! Going to the fair isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but it sure was fun to people watch and try the new foods. Everyone should do that once in a while.
