| | Is harvest season over yet?October 7, 2011 - Lisa ReedBeing married to a man that loves to garden, I am a “farmers wife” and that means I spend a lot of time in late summer and early fall harvesting vegetables from our garden. So far, I have froze 40 bags of sweet corn, 20 bags or more of broccoli, cauliflower and/or carrots, 35 beefsteak tomatoes, a couple bags of “grape” tomatoes, and a gallon-size bag of snap peas. I have also canned nine quart jars of tomatoes, 14 half-pint jars of salsa and five pint jars of green beans. We still have squash and pumpkins to eat or give away, and I want to decorate with the cornstalks. Oh and there are still apples to pick and eat or freeze. Apparently with the above normal temperatures, the broccoli and cauliflower are continuing to grow while the carrots and potatoes remain in the ground. So we continue to harvest our garden. But our hard work pays off in the winter when we eat our own “fresh garden” vegetables... happy harvest! | in: News, Blogs & Events Web |
