| | Little DunkersNovember 14, 2011 - Ron DeuterMy son and a couple dozen other youngsters recently completed Little Dunkers basketball program at our local YMCA. This once-a-week, hour-long clinic basically introduced the idea of basketball to kids as young as four. Led by an energetic (and patient) coach and a few other volunteers, the boys and girls practiced dribbling, passing, shooting and defense while learning the concept of teamwork and having fun. Frequent bathroom breaks, drinking fountain runs and sliding along the slippery gym floor were all part of the excitement for the kids in the class, along with the all hands in the middle team cheer at the end of the session. As winter approaches, and outdoor time becomes limited for the little ones, the YMCA is a terrific option. Many other youth programs are offered, and the cost is reasonable.
