The truth hurts
November 23, 2011 - Burt Angeli
Some Houghton students didn’t appreciate a Bridge magazine article praising the high school’s strong academic showing — top spot for college readiness — and ripping the football team’s lack of success — 17-65 record in the past 10 years,
The magazine hoodwinked the students to some extent, setting up a picture with the academic stars standing over kneeling football players. Seems like nobody at Houghton questioned the magazine on what they planned to do with the picture.
Houghton principal Kass Simila took some heat from parents and students for comments she gave to the magazine. Simila later apologized for telling the magazine “we (football team) just hope to score” plus other remarks.
The Gremlins, with a 1-8 record this past season, beat Baraga 8-0 for their only win. Opponents outscored Houghton 300-86.
