The Shrine Circus

May 7, 2009 - Ron Deuter
My wife and I took our little guy to the Shrine Circus Wednesday at Mountain View Ice Arena. At 20 months old, our son might have still been a little young to fully appreciate all of the acts, and opting for the second show at 7:30 p.m. was a challenge for someone used to going to bed around 8. But by the look of his constant smile throughout the evening, we’re fairly certain he enjoyed the show. I thought this three-ring event did a fine job of entertaining fans of all ages. The live animal acts with tigers, bears and elephants were clearly our kid’s favorites. I was impressed with the tight-rope walker, especially his back-flip near the end of the routine. The husband and wife magic routine was good too, but you had to pay close attention to fully appreciate the act. The show lasted over two hours, and there was an intermission during which time kids could go down and get photos with the animals (for an extra fee). Our only gripe was the lighting. Spotlights were placed behind the rings and shining into the crowd. I had to look away at certain points when the light was blinding my view of the performer. All in all though, this was a very reasonably-priced and enjoyable evening of family entertainment.
