Invitation still stands
January 12, 2012 - Jim Anderson
With a wind chill of 23 below, New York Giants kicker Lawrence Tynes connected on a 47-yard field goal in overtime on Jan. 20, 2008, at Lambeau Field, giving the Giants a 23-20 win over the Packers in the NFC championship game.
Tynes, who is still the Giants kicker, holds the distinction of delivering one of the funnier lines in the history of “The David Letterman Show.”
In that championship game at Lambeau, before delivering in overtime, Tynes missed a go-ahead kick from 43 yards in the fourth quarter and a game-winner from 36 yards as time expired.
On the Letterman show, watching a replay of the missed kick at the end of regulation, Tynes quipped, “Right there I'm thinking, ‘What's it going to be like to live in Green Bay?’”
For all parties, it might be best if it doesn’t come down to a game-winner from Tynes again this Sunday.
If it does, here’s hoping he keeps Green Bay’s low cost-of-living in mind.
