Tommy, "Coach K" in recruiting battle

February 16, 2012 - Burt Angeli
Michigan State’s Tom Izzo and Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski are apparently squaring off in the college basketball recruiting wars.

Both coaches want Tyus Jones, a 6-foot-2 point guard from Apple Valley (Minn.) The sophomore recently scored a school-record 45 points in a loss. Charley Walters of the St. Paul Pioneer Press says ‘Coach K” has offered a scholarship to Jones.

“Krzyzewski assistant Jeff Capel has been in town a couple of times to watch Jones, as has Michigan State coach Tom Izzo,” Walters wrote. “Minnesota coach Tubby Smith is a regular observer of Jones, who doesn't turn 16 until May.”
