Goodman-Pembine boys basketball coach John Ostermann was none to happy to see a basket wiped out in the regional tournament game with Wausaukee. The Patriots had a break-away lay-up and with the ball about to fall through for a basket another teammate followed through to dunk it in for offensive goaltending. A technical foul was also assessed. “There’s a time and place for that, and it’s usually open gym,” Ostermann said ...

A Wall Street Journal story on low-scoring, physical Big Ten Conference basketball games brought up a couple interesting points. The 1970 Iowa Hawkeyes averaged 103 points per game. Sam Dekker, according to the Sheboygan Press, chalked up 29 points, 23 rebounds, three blocked shots and three thunderous "Sam" dunks in Sheboygan Lutheran’s 79-42 Divison 5 boys basketball regional final win over Goodman-Pembine. Dekker’s future coach, Wisconsin’s Bo Ryan, was reportedly among the standing-room only crowd. Patriots coach John Ostermann heard the 6-foot-8 Dekker will likely start for the Badgers next season. Understand Dekker’s supporting cast isn’t bad, either. “Everybody who comes to see Sam play for the first time goes back impressed with them, too," said Lutheran coach Todd Dekker, Sam's dad. ...
