Wrestler honored

March 22, 2012 - Burt Angeli
Bradley Tech heavyweight John Jude, who dominated the Ray Mariucci Invitational in Kingsford along with winning the Wisconsin state championship, has been named the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel area wrestler of the year.

The senior (49-1, 40 pins at 285) was among three Tech wrestlers on the all-area first team, joining junior Travis Smith (50-1 at 138) and junior Justice Parker (45-9 at 113).

"It meant a lot to him (Jude)," Bradley Tech Coach and Kingsford grad Craig Bevilacqua told the Journal Sentinel. "He wanted it really bad. He wanted to show people what they missed last year. He felt like something was taken away from him. He was determined to win it. He wears that medal everywhere right now."

A problem with transferring kept Jude off the mat his junior season.

"He wanted this," said Bevilacqua. "He's so proud of his (state championship) medal. He's a great kid. He's not cocky. He has his medal with him all the time. He's happy."
