Ferris hockey no surprise
March 27, 2012 - Burt Angeli
Ferris State is making its first appearance in the NCAA Frozen Four hockey tournament.
And a local college hockey expert is “not surprised to see Ferris make it to Tampa.”
“They have been one of the hottest teams in college hockey since Christmas break and they spent some time as the number one team in the country for the first time in the program’s history,” said our source.
This year's Frozen Four will be held at the Tampa Bay Times Forum in Tampa Bay, Fla., on April 5 and 7, according to the Ferris State Web site.
Ferris State and Union will meet in the first national semifinal on Thursday, April 5, at 3:30 p.m. (Central time, ESPNU) with Minnesota squaring off against Boston College in the second semifinal at 7 p.m. (ESPN2).
The winners will meet in the national championship game on Saturday, April 7, at 6 p.m. on ESPN2.
Ferris State advanced to the Frozen Four for the first-time ever with a 2-1 win over Cornell in the NCAA Midwest Regional final at the Resch Center in Ashwaubenon, Wis. Ferris tied (5-5) and defeated (3-1) Northern Michigan this season.
