‘What Refund?’ wins
April 5, 2012 - Blaine Hyska
Believe it or not, most people don’t get an income tax refund. At least, that’s the results of the latest Daily News webpage survey.
Readers were asked “How are you going to spend your income tax refund?”
Respondents were given several choices: Pay Bills; Put in Savings; Furniture; Vacation; Car/Truck; New Phone; Computer; Just Spend It; and the final choice was What Refund? Nearly half, 45 percent, the survey respondents chose What Refund? as their answer.
That’s surprising. Most Americans get something back each year. Maybe the survey-takers didn’t count their refunds this year because they were so small.
The second most popular answer was Pay Bills at 28 percent followed by Put in Savings at 16 percent.
Vacation was chosen by 4 percent of the survey-takers, followed by Just Spend It with 3 percent. Furniture and Car/Truck each received 2 percent of the the votes.
Since it was an internet survey, it was surprising that buying electronic gadgets didn’t get more votes.New Phone and Computer both received votes, less than 10 each, but that amounted to zero percent of the nearly 2,000 survey-takers. Don’t forget. Income tax deadline day looms.
The traditional tax return filing deadline is April 15 each year, but this year, April 15 falls on a Sunday and April 16 falls on Emancipation Day in the District of Columbia so the deadline has been extended to April 17.
