Landline phone not worth it

May 29, 2009 - Lisa Reed
A landline telephone is not worth the service provided for the cost. We have a home-based telephone, and if it were up to me, we would have gotten rid of it a long time ago. It seems the only calls we receive on the landline are from survey companies, doctors confirming appointments and whoever else does not have our cell phone numbers. Data from the National Health Interview Survey, conducted by the Centers for Disease Control, shows one in five U.S. households do not have a landline telephone. It just goes to show more and more people do not have a home telephone. And who can blame them? Anyone who needs to get a hold of my husband or I will call our cell phones first. The only reason we have not gotten rid of our landline telephone is because of my husband’s business. And he gets more calls for business on his cell phone than the home phone. For $26 a month in which we can only make local calls - no long distance, no call waiting, no voice service and no caller ID - I don’t think the home phone service is worth it. What are your thoughts?
