Mountaineers march past Boyne City, 42-0

November 2, 2009

By RON DEUTER Sports Writer IRON MOUNTAIN – Overwhelming Boyne City with its hard-nosed physical defense, Iron Mountain forced five turnovers before halftime and coasted to a 42-0 Division 6 pre-district playoff win Saturday afternoon at Mountaineer stadium. “They made too many mistakes and we were better than them up front,” Mountaineer head coach Scott Boddy said. “Everybody got to play, so it was a great win for us.” The Ramblers, who lost their senior starting quarterback to injury in the regular-season finale, turned the ball over on four of their first five possessions and didn’t register a first down until an Iron Mountain penalty yielded one late in the first half. Iron Mountain outgained Boyne City 296-46 in the first half, rushing for 239 yards. Taylor Jayne eclipsed 100 yards rushing before the first quarter ended, thanks mostly to his 76 touchdown run to put the Mountaineers on the board. He finished with 109 yards on 10 trips. “It felt great,” Jayne said.
