DETROIT (AP) — Street flooding caused by an apparent water main break on Detroit's east side has left several vehicles stuck in water and ice, prompting a rescue using construction equipment.
The break was reported Friday morning in the area of Gratiot Avenue at Conner Street. Temperatures are around zero degrees.
Firefighters responded to help free motorists from the waters. Crews used a front-end loader to carry two people stranded in one vehicle. They also worked to clear ice and water from the area, which is closed to traffic. The roadway could be shut for days for repairs.
No injuries were reported.
