Robert Johnson

STAMBAUGH TOWNSHIP — Robert C. Johnson, 80, Stambaugh Township, died Thursday, April 24, 2008, at the Iron County Community Hospital in Iron River.

He was born April 27, 1927, in Iron River, the son of the late Gunnar and Elma (Eriksson) Johnson attended the Iron River schools, graduating from Iron River High School in 1946. He attended the McDonough Business School and then served in the U.S. Marines from 1946 to 1948.

In 1949-1950, he received his lineman certification from Wis-Mich Power Co. and then returned to the Marines, serving during the Korean Conflict. Following his service time, he returned to Iron River and was employed as a lineman by Wis-Mich Power Co., retiring in 1988.

He married the former Adeline Tickanen on Oct.1, 1955, at the First Lutheran Church of Iron River and the couple made their home in Stambaugh Township. The couple celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 2005. He enjoyed his camp at Cook’s Run and fixing engines or machinery. After his retirement, he enjoyed working with his son in his trucking business.

He was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Iron River, American Legion Alfred Branchini Post 17, and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW).

He is survived by his wife, Adeline; one son, Richard (Terri) Johnson of Iron River; one daughter, Sheree (Ronald) Mariani of Ishpeming; one brother Jerry Johnson of Warren, Mich.; one sister, Marie (Don) Ciochetto of Iron River; four grandchildren, Amy and Cory Johnson, Maria and Christina Mariani; three great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Madaski, Brooke and Michelle Johnson and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and William and two sisters, Christine Samppala and Svea Nilsson of Sweden.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron River.

Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River with Rev. Bonny Kinnunen to officiate.

The West Side Veterans Council will accord Military Rites.

Interment will be in the Resthaven Cemetery in Iron River.
