David Warnshuis
IRON MOUNTAIN — David (Dave) Thomas Warnshuis found peace after a long battle on Wednesday, April 23, 2008.
He was born in Greenville, Mich., the second son of Paul and Dolores Warnshuis of Greenville, Mich., who survive.
He was always proud to be Mark’s “little brother,” and reminisced often of happy times they shared.
He married Nancy Byrne and together they raised two sons, Darrick Gibbs of Mt. Pleasant, Mich. and Thomas Albert (Carley) Warnshuis of Grand Rapids, Mich.
In 1998, he married Ann Kezerle in Lake Ann, Mich. and immediately took as his own, her daughters, Erin (Jeremy) LaValley of Negaunee and Elizabeth (Matthew) Turek of Kingsley, Mich. He was proud of all his children and adored his grandchildren, Croix John LaValley and Sylvie Christine LaValley.
Dave’s passion was people and he loved to write about them and for them. He was an award winning playwright and editorial/sports writer for The Daily News.
Besides writing the story of sports, he also took time to umpire numerous baseball games and basketball games over the years.
He always believed everybody has a story to tell, and made it a point to take time to get to know the students and other individuals he was in contact with. He was a caring, compassionate person who yearned for perfection. He will be deeply and forever missed by his loving family and his dear friends.
For all those that he touched with his words, he would want you to know that he always felt honored to tell your stories, and especially loved the time he spent with the Trojans and the Knights. You gave him so much pleasure.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Crystal Falls.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the church. Fr. Dino Silvestrini will officiate.
Friends my leave condolences and tributes to David’s family online at www.jacobsfuneralhomes.com.
