The Knights seniors outlasted Gladstone and battled to the end with Iron Mountain’s Andrew Bales-Corey Runsat in recent matches.
“Tyler Havens and Jake Mellon continue to show improvement,” said Norway Coach Gus Murray after the Knights bowed to Gladstone 7-1.
Havens-Mellon dropped the first set to the Braves 6-2, but rebounded to win the match 6-0, 6-2.
“This doubles team doesn’t give up,” Murray said. “They are learning that it takes two sets to win and it doesn’t matter when they do it.
“When they get in a groove they are tough to beat.”
The match with the Mountaineers took nearly two hours before the Knights fell 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (9-7), 7-5.
“The third set became a battle of wills,” Murray said.
The Knights face Ishpeming today.

NEGAUNEE — Negaunee dominated doubles and spilled previously unbeaten Iron Mountain 5-3 in high school boys tennis here Wednesday.
“It was a very competitive match,” said IM Coach Chris Hartman. “It came down to their depth in doubles and we were a little overmatched.”
Mountaineers (8-1-2) face Kingsford today.
“I thought my team battled hard and the loss wasn’t for a lack of effort,” Hartman said. “All we can do is learn from our mistakes and move on.”
