IRON RIVER - Darrell T. Stanton, 55, of Iron River, went home to the Lord on Monday, Oct. 6, 2008.
He was born on May 23, 1953, in Grand Rapids, Mich., the son of Russell and the late Maxine (Kelly) Stanton. He attended the Allendale, Mich. public schools.
Darrell married the former Patti Van Solkema on March 16, 1973, in Allendale. He worked for Light Metals Corp. until 1998. The couple then moved to Iron River in 1999, where he worked as a self-employed building contractor.
aHe was a member of the First Baptist Church of Iron River and the National Rifle Association (NRA). He loved nature and the woods and enjoyed hunting, trapping, and target shooting. He was an avid concealed weapons advocate.
He is survived by his wife, Patti; a son, Joseph Stanton of Iron River; daughter, Jennifer (Brian) Koppenaal of Franklin, Tenn.; his father, Russell Stanton of Coopersville, Mich.; three brothers; Larry (Sue) Stanton of Allendale, Dan (Charon) Stanton of Jenison, Mich., and Tim Stanton of Coopersville; and four grandchildren, Levi, Luke, Brayden, and Saedra
He was also preceded in death by his brother, David Stanton.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron River.
Funeral service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Iron River, with Rev. John Fish to officiate.
Interment will be in the Bates Township Cemetery of Iron River.
