Norway women hurt in off-road accident
By NIKKI YOUNK, Staff WriterSTEPHENSON - Two Norway women were injured in an off-road vehicle (ORV) accident in Menominee County's Meyer Township Sunday night, said troopers from the Stephenson Post of the Michigan State Police.
Twin sisters Sarah and Melissa Girard, 23, were traveling on the same four wheel ORV on a dirt road near the Bourgeois Farm Road, approximately three miles from Dickinson County, when the accident occurred, troopers reported.
According to the official police report, both subjects were ejected when the machine rolled over while traveling on rough terrain at approximately 7:15 p.m.
Neither subject was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Troopers said that both subjects were transported to Dickinson County Memorial Hospital by North Alert/Beacon Ambulance.
Sarah, the driver, sustained serious injuries and was later transported by Eagle Three helicopter to St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, Wis. Melissa sustained minor injuries and was
later released.
The accident remains under investigation, said troopers.
Assisting units at the scene of the crash included the Dickinson County Sheriff's Office and the Iron Mountain State Police Post.
