KINGSFORD - Kenneth Helgren, 78, of 320 Roseland St. in Kingsford, died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.
He was born July 18, 1930, in Milwaukee, son of the late George and Julia (Savord) Helgren. Ken's family moved to Channing in 1938, and he graduated from the Channing High School in 1949.
Upon graduation, Ken relocated back to the Milwaukee area where he was employed for many years as a cement mason until his retirement in 1993. In 1999, Ken moved to the Kingsford area.
On Dec. 28, 1999, he married Debra Rudoll in Iron Mountain.
Ken loved to spend time hunting at camp and also enjoyed gardening.
Ken is survived by his wife, Debra; three sons, Paul (Tammy) Hunt of Caledonia, Wis., Brian (Chris) Helgren of Lampasas, Texas and Ken (Michele) Helgren of Cibolo, Texas; three daughters, Linda (Mike) Amy, Mary Hunt, and Kelly Archambeau, all of Milwaukee; two stepchildren, Michael (Amanda) Esaman of Hinckley, Minn. and Gail Esaman of Milwaukee; three brothers, James (Willie) Helgren of Channing, Ralph (Gloria) Helgren of Houston and Dorias "Butch" (Rae) Helgren of Bay City, Mich.; one sister, Joanne (Jack) Carey of Channing; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Ken is preceded in death by his daughter, Christine Johnson; a granddaughter, Cassie; a grandson, Kenneth Michael; two brothers, Robert and George Helgren; and two sisters, Geraldine Layman and Karen Koski.
Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Fr. Raymond Valerio will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his memory.
