GOP campaign stops in IM

IRON MOUNTAIN - A group of approximately 35 local residents gathered at City Park Thursday morning to welcome members of the Our Country Deserves Better Committee on their nation-wide "Stop Obama" tour.

The Our Country Deserves Better Committee is a registered political action committee that has launched a $500,000 campaign against Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama in the state of Michigan. According to the committee's press release, Michigan has become its number one priority since Republican presidential candidate John McCain pulled his campaign resources out of the state.

Members of the committee who stopped in Iron Mountain included radio and television political analyst Mark Williams, military mom Deborah Johns, and conservative activist and singer Lloyd Marcus.

"Obama and the liberal media are telling us that Michigan is solidly for Obama," said Williams. "They're trying to influence us to stay away from the polls, that our votes don't count."

He told the audience that the committee's tour bus has made successful stops in several key swing states like Wisconsin, Illinois, and Pennsylvania. This, he said, was evidence that the election will not be over until every single American's vote is counted.

Williams also focused on the positive attributes of McCain and vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

"John McCain is asking for one more chance to serve his country," he said in reference to McCain's time in the military. "And Sarah Palin is the next generation of leaders that we need in Washington."

Johns told the audience that she believed in a "silent majority" in Michigan, made up of conservative voters who do not want "to be attacked like Joe the Plumber."

"We all need to get out to these people, talk to our neighbors, make phone calls," she urged.

After the rally, the audience members were invited to submit their resumes to the committee in order to prove that there are plenty of Americans with more executive experience and responsibility than Obama.
