Hometowne fire investigation complete

KINGSFORD - Investigation into a fire at Hometowne Kitchen and Bath Center Thursday morning revealed heat from a stove pipe connected to a pellet wood stove caused inner roofing material and insulation to burn.

Kingsford Public Safety Department responded to a 911 call at Hometowne Kitchen and Bath Center, 213 S. Carpenter Ave. at 9 a.m. Thursday.

Officers arrived on scene and extinguished the fire located in the attic, KPS reported in a press release sent at 11 a.m. today. Investigation revealed the heat from a stove pipe connected to a pellet wood stove caused inner roofing material and insulation to burn.

Officers credited quick actions by Hometowne Lumber employees who used fire extinguishers to stop the fire from spreading inside the building. Officers remained on scene for more than two hours removing several old layers of roofing material that was smoldering to insure the fire was out completely.

They cleared the scene at 11:24 a.m.

Officers were assisted by Hometowne Lumber employees.
