Health Occupations students place in HOSA competition
KINGSFORD - Nineteen students from the Health Occupations class at the Dickinson-Iron Technical Education Center recently participated in the Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) Regional competition held at Marquette High School.
HOSA is a Career and Technology Student Organization recognized by the United States Department of Education. This organization provides a unique program of leadership development, motivation and recognition, exclusively for secondary and post-secondary collegiate students enrolled in Health Science Technology Education programs.
Students compete in several areas including individual events measuring knowledge and clinical skills.
Results from this competition are as follows:
- Medical Nutrition Knowledge Test: Gold Medal Andra Danielson (Kingsford High School)
- Job Seeking Skills: Gold Medal - Cammie Antonetti (KHS)
- Pharmacology Knowledge Test: Gold Medal Nichole Johnson (KHS)
- Physical Therapy Assisting: Silver Medal Ashleigh Anderson (Forest Park)
- Dental Terminology: Gold Medal - Megan Wedin (Kingsford High School)
- Medical Math: Gold Medal John Wenzel (KHS)
- Nurse Assisting: Gold Medal Bionca Loar (KHS); Silver Medal Alyssa Pontti (Iron Mountain High School); Bronze Medal Paige Guth (KHS)
- Researched Persuasive Speaking: Gold Medal Abigail Pericolosi (KHS);
Silver Medal Hillari Ward (KHS); and Bronze Medal Jalissa Haugen (North Dickinson High School)
- Medical Terminology: Silver Medal Whitney Dalsanto (North Dickinson);
Bronze Medal Laura Perez (KHS); and Finalist Melinda Whitaker (North Dickinson)
- Prepared Speaking: Gold Medal Roberta Adams (Iron Mountain)
- Medical Photography: Gold Medal Ashley Tompkins (KHS)
- Medical Assisting -Administrative: Gold Medal- Brianne Tirschel (KHS)
- Extemporaneous Poster: Finalist Nicole Kayser (KHS)
These students will now move on to the state level competition which will be held in Traverse City on April 23-24.
