Blast ‘back to work’
NORWAY - Central Wisconsin Spartans kept the U.P. Arctic Blast winless.
Quarterback Anthony Johnson connected on four touchdown passes - three to Frank Minervini - and Kevin Thompson rushed for three scores in the Spartans' 59-14 Northern Elite Football League romp at Norway's Ronberg Field.
Blast (0-5) travel to Kimberly (545 S. Lake St.) on Saturday to face the Northeast Wisconsin Storm. Game time is 4 p.m.
"We'll go back to work and see what happens," said Blast general manager Andy Bray. "Things can only get better."
Blast, trailing 31-0 at halftime, scored to open the third quarter when quarterback Joe Pontbriand hit Ross Casanova with a 21-yard touchdown pass.
In the fourth quarter, Blast's Scott Saatio recovered a fumble in the end zone. Alpha's Levi Jarvi added his second PAT.
Blast fumbled twice and had one pass intercepted on the rainy night.
Defensively, Brett Bray and D.J. Bianchi each made five tackles and Chad Olson had four.
Blast play their third home game on Saturday, June 27, taking on the Superior Stampede at 6 p.m. (Central time) in Ishpeming.
"The Stampede have an outstanding team again," Bray noted.
