NMU camp

MARQUETTE - Northern Michigan University coaches and players will conduct a youth football camp Wednesday at Mountaineer Stadium.

Youngsters age 6-8 will participate from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.; age 9-12, 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Sign-up will take place on the day and time of the camp. Cost is $10 per participant.

IRON MOUNTAIN - The father-son duo of Al and Robert Pirkola shot a 157 to win fourth flight in the U.P. Best Ball tournament at Pine Grove Country Club.

Monday's Daily News story indicated Gerry and Scott Pirkola as the fourth-flight winners.

Legion baseball:

Awards presented

IRON MOUNTAIN - Jordan Groeneveld Memorial Scholarship will be presented tonight prior to the American Legion baseball game at Ranger Field.

Kingsford Blues and Iron Mountain Golds will meet at 5:30 p.m.

Senior Little League's Sagola/Aspen one-hits Iron River

CHANNING - One-hit pitching boosted Sagola/Aspen past Iron River 4-3 in Little League Senior baseball.

SA's Bryan Harper and Cody Berg struck out seven Iron River batters. Iron River's Alex Bowman yielded three hits fanned eight.

Paul Deyaert, Kyle Lefebvre, Austin Murdock and Dusty Neuens each nailed two hits as Coleman Engineering drilled Myers Siding 11-1.

Deyaert and Lefebvre combined for a four-hit, four-strikeout pitching performance. Myers' Matt Wiitanen and Caleb Harrington allowed 11 hits and fanned four.

Collin Spencer doubled in the seventh inning and added a single as Allen Painting & Decorating dumped Aurora 16-10.

APD pitchers Dalton Allen, Bryce Kerscher, Jackson Baumgart and Nick Sweig gave up seven hits.

APD posted 12 hits - two each by Montgomery Marshall, Kerscher, Spencer and Logan Nord.

Aurora's Austin Trudell doubled and singled twice.
