IRON MOUNTAIN - Hundreds of people attended Art for All 2009 at Bay College West in Iron Mountain on Saturday.

Forty-eight exhibitors provided a wide variety of fine art and crafts displays for the public to enjoy and purchase, and vocalists, musicians and performers offered a variety of entertainment throughout the day. Children had fun painting masks and adult visitors had the opportunity to pick up a paintbrush and try their hand at creating an acrylic composition on canvas, and make bids at the Silent Auction.

The judges selected Kristine Danielson's work as Best in Show. The First National Bank and Trust of Iron Mountain-Kingsford sponsored the accompanying $175 prize. Danielson was also awarded the First Place Award of Excellence for Jewelry.

Northern Michigan Bank sponsored the $175 People's Choice Award, which was won by Norma Deyeart. Visitors who voted for their favorite artist also got a chance to win a $10 gas card. Those winners were: Louise Koehler of Fond du Lac; Betty Vanness and Lynne Wilson of Iron Mountain; and Lance Marcell of Kingsford.

For the second year, Bay College made two major purchases using funds from the Collection Award from Lawrence Hartwig Endowment Fund.

The recipients of the Bay College Collection Award were James Giddings for marquetry panels and Alysa Diebolt for a fused glass sculpture. Their work will be placed on permanent display at the Bay College West Campus gallery. Giddings and Diebolt also received First Place Awards of Excellence for their work.

The Most Promising New Artist Award of $125 went to Beth Millner for jewelry, compliments of Dr. Robert and Mary Baker.

Other First Place Awards of Excellence were given to: Susan Brown, Fiber; Steve Wysocki, Painting; Rick Scheutte, Pottery; and Eric Lewandowski, Photography. The First Place Awards of Excellence earned each artist $50.

Sponsoring these awards were: Forward Financial; Iron Mountain-Kingsford Community Credit Union; First National Bank of Niagara; Smith Castings; Art Works Gallery; and BJK Landscapes & Design.

Second place Awards of Excellence were given to: Ursula McCarthy, Fiber; Valencia McKenzie, Glass; Beth Millner, Jewelry; Helga Flower, Painting, Karen Larson, Pottery; and Ted Rogers, Wood.

A record 38 student artists representing six area high schools entered Art for All 2009.

Best of Show Student Art was awarded to Sarah DePas from Niagara. Her efforts earned her $25 in art supplies from Stevens Decorating and Framing.

Certificates of Merit were awarded to Abby Kenard of North Dickinson; Angela Bedard, Laura Bietela, Lindsey Kriegl, Vanessa Radlinger and Natasha Taff of Norway; Danielle Beauchamp, Lindsey Beauchamp, Emily Boileau and Sheila Sleeter of Niagara; and Devon Daugherty, Cari Dulan and Krista Testolin of Kingsford.

The Art for All Committee thanked the public for their participation and patronage of the exhibitors, to the media for coverage, to Bay College staff and students and all who volunteered, to Champion Inc. who provided off-site parking, to Bacco Construction Co. for making adjustments in their road work schedule; and to Wal-Mart, Smith Castings, Zeman Graphic Design, Home Depot, Super One and Econo Foods for materials, supplies and assistance.

The 43rd Annual Art for All will be held at Bay College West on June 26, 2010.
