Sgt. Scott Giuliani

BENSON, N.C. - Sgt. Scott A. "Jewels" Giuliani, Ret., USAF, 33, of Benson, died Friday, May 29, 2009, at his home after a valiant battle with cancer.

Scott was born in Iron Mountain, the son of Ernest Paul and Lois Ann Hulce Giuliani. He was a member of Freedom Biker Church in Angier, N.C., where he served as youth minister. He was also an active member of the Christian Motorcyclist Association in Lillington, N.C.

Scott served 11 years in the United States Air Force. He was assigned to the 24th Special Tactics Squadron on Pope AFB. He served his country as a combat controller for three tours of duty in Iraq and four in Afghanistan where he earned a Bronze Star, Air Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, and the Distinguished/Presidential Unit Citation.

Scott attended Grand Valley State University from 1994 to 1996 studying criminal justice and playing for the 1995 and 1996 Laker's baseball team.

On Dec. 28, 1997, he married his fellow 1994 Kingsford High School graduate and sweetheart, Lori Chartier.

Survivors are his wife, Lori M. Chartier Giuliani of Benson; his parents, Ernest and Lois Giuliani of Kingsford; brother, Paul Giuliani of Ferndale, Mich.; sister, Brenda Phare of Westland, Mich.; niece, Aranda Phare; nephew, Zakary Phare and many friends regarded as family.

He was preceded in death by his infant brother, David Giuliani, his infant uncle, David Giuliani, his uncle, Lawrence Giuliani, his uncle, David Hulce, aunt, Alice Simonetti and his grandparents, Fred and Mae Hulce and John and Theresa Giuliani.

Scott was buried with full honors at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va. on July 15.

A memorial service for Scott will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Immanuel Baptist Church in Kingsford.
