Norway Minors in state quarterfinals
CHEBOYGAN - Norway Minor boys (age 9-10), with a 10-0 win over Taylor South on Sunday, have advanced to the quarterfinals of the state tournament and will face Vicksburg tonight at 5:30 p.m.
Already leading 1-0, Norway opened up against Taylor South with a five-run second. Ryan Menard's frozen-rope triple down the third base line scored three runs. Canyon Rossato and Bobby Kleiman added run-scoring singles in the frame.
A four-run fourth put the game away. Kleiman hit a two-run single and then scored on a triple by Ethan Blagec. The run-rule came into effect on the next pitch when Kevin Evosovich doubled in Blagec.
Kleiman turned in a no-hitter on the hill, walking only one batter while fanning three.
On Saturday the Norway 9-10 boys bounced back from their only loss of the All-Star season by posting a 7-3 win over Muskegon Roosevelt Park.
Dawson Bilski and Josh Dapoz each hit home runs in the fifth inning as Norway evened its tournament record at 1-1.
Bilski also had a double and a single in the game, and Dapoz later hit a home run in the Home Run Derby that was held in Cheboygan.
Justin Bal and Canyon Rossato each added RBI singles for Norway.
Hunter Kaldor pitched 4 2/3 innings to earn the win.
