Yoopers to attend MSU football game

Super Dooper Yoopers, unbeaten in 10 appearances at Michigan State basketball games, will make a football trip this fall.

Obviously fearing a loss to Montana State in the season opener, Michigan State hopes to at least salvage a .500 record after the Yoopers watch the Sept. 12 game with Central Michigan.

Look for congenial host Tommy Izzo to entertain the Iron Mountain-Kingsford gang with a tailgate party before and after the game.

"Still kind of amazing but that's our Tom," said co-organizer Bob Furno of the invitation to watch MSU football.

Remember, Yoopers, there's no more couch burning in East Lansing ...

It didn't come as a surprise that Krista Mikesch stepped down as Michigan Tech University women's volleyball coach.

Although senior outside hitter Veronica Armstrong, an instructor for the Kingsford Volleyball Camp, figured Mikesch would stick around for another season.

"I think we'll be OK when she's gone," Armstrong told The Mining Gazette. "Of course we're going to miss her. But the next couple of weeks are going to be hell."

Mikesch, part of Tech volleyball since 1993, delivered some classic lines when ripping her team after some setbacks ...
