Robert Challancin

FELCH - Robert J. "Lolly" Challancin, 75, of Felch, died on Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at Marquette General Hospital in Marquette.

He was born on March 28, 1934, in Crystal Falls, son of the late Alex and Emerald (Miller) Challancin. He attended school in Crystal Falls, graduating from Crystal Falls High School. He joined the United States Navy and was honorably discharged.

He married Mary Ann Siegel on July 20, 1962 in Howell, Mich., and together they moved to Felch and have been residents since 1976. Mary preceded him in death on May 28, 2008.

Lolly enjoyed hunting, going to camp, and gardening. He loved to cook, and was known for his feisty personality. When his wife, Mary became ill, he took great care of her for 11 years before she passed on.

He is survived by his sons, Rob (Cheri) Challancin and Jim (Kelly) Challancin, all of Felch; grandchildren, Sydney, Kyle, Alec and Shea Challancin, all of Felch; a sister, Jane (John) Zeleznik of Amasa and a niece, Julie (Fred) Watts of Menominee, Wis.

The visitation will be held on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.

The funeral service will be on Monday, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Rev. David Anderson will officiate.

Burial will be in the Felch Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his memory.
