KINGSFORD - Five players took home singles and doubles titles from the Phyllis Laurila Junior Tennis Tournament at Kingsford High School.

Samantha Fleming prevailed in age 16-under singles and teamed with Kylee Erickson for the "16" doubles crown.

Meggan Amour claimed the "14" singles championship and joined "12" singles winner Madeline Waara in capturing "12" doubles.

In the 16-year-old division, Caleb Harrington triumphed in singles and partnered with Ty Dobson for doubles honors.

Chris Roell registered the "12" singles crown along with "12" doubles and teammate Alek Shanks.

"The tourney was a great conclusion to the (nine-week Community Schools) summer program," said tournament director Mark Shanks. "All of the players showed a great deal of progress and the future for tennis continues to look bright in our area."

The tournament drew 47 singles players and 23 doubles teams.

Shanks expressed appreciation to sponsors Iron Mountain Pepsi, Bink's Coca-Cola and Iron Mountain-Kingsford Community Schools.

"Two great days of tennis," Laurila said. "A special thank you to Phyllis Laurila for helping and to the parents who assisted at courtside."
