IRON MOUNTAIN - The Daily News' Newspapers in Education Program is holding its annual book sale at Midtown Mall this Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
"There will be a wide selection to choose from, including books written by well-known authors," said NIE Coordinator Aimee D'Amico.
Some book selections include romance, murder/mystery, science fiction and even a selection of children's books. There will also be some VHS cassette tapes available.
Some 14 tables of books will be on display in the hallway in the vicinity of the Front Porch, extending towards Country Kitchen.
"We are asking for a 50 cent donation for paperback books and VHS tapes, and $1 for hardcover books," D'Amico said.
Proceeds donated to the book sale will go to the NIE Program.
"With the start of another school year right around the corner, we are hoping for the sale to be a great success," D'Amico said.
The Newspapers in Education Program is a non-profit organization that provides newspapers and study guides to teachers at area schools to use as a teaching tool in their classroom.
The NIE program helps to promote literacy, and holds fund-raising events and projects throughout the year.
NIE receives grants from the The Daily News, local businesses, sponsorships, and generous individual donors.
"By contributing to NIE you are helping our young people learn the importance of current events and instilling a sense of civic awareness," D'Amico said.
"If you love to read and want to get some great books at a great price, come see us on Friday," she said.
"Remember when you're purchasing books, you are contributing to a wonderful program. We are always looking for new sponsors for our many projects and events for NIE," D'Amico said.
"Even if you can't help us monetarily, we always need people to volunteer their time when we hold an event. If you're interested in being a sponsor or a volunteer, we have many upcoming events we could use help with," she said.
For individuals unable to attend the NIE Book Sale on Friday, the remaining books will be available at The Daily News, 215 E. Ludington St. starting next week.
