The Daily News

VULCAN - A group of area volunteers who are members of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and Our Saviour's Lutheran Church recently spent several hours assisting with construction at the Starnes' home being built in Vulcan.

Habitat for Humanity Menominee River Affiliate and the Starnes family commended the volunteers for donating their time and talent.

The Starnes' home is being funded in large part by an alliance between Habitat for Humanity International and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, called Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity.

This is a capacity building program in that it is helping increase the number of homes Habitat builds. Volunteers must be 25 percent members of Thrivent Financial and 50 percent members of area Lutheran churches.

Volunteer crews construct the homes alongside the partner families.

"Lutherans and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans members are critically needed to complete construction on this house," said Habitat representative Diana M. Bancroft.

All area Lutherans are invited to help, she added.

Group work days are being scheduled in both September and October.

For more information, please call Diana or Sherryl at (906) 779-5377.

The Menominee River Affiliate of Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit Christian housing ministry that changes lives by offering affordable housing to families.

With the help of volunteers and donors, Habitat partners with families to build homes. The homes are sold at no profit to partner families.

The families who purchase these homes are further educated on home maintenance and financial management.
