IRON RIVER - A five-year-old child died in an off-road vehicle (ORV) accident in Iron River Township on Sunday.
Troopers from the Iron River post of the Michigan State Police reported that the crash occurred on Amvets Highway near East Siding Road at approximately 10:30 a.m.
The driver of the ORV, 36-year-old Kimberly Lewis of Larsen, Wis., was ejected from the vehicle and received a severe leg injury, said troopers.
Troopers said that her passenger, a five-year-old Iron River child, was also ejected from the vehicle.
The child died from injuries sustained in the crash, said troopers.
Troopers said that both riders were wearing helmets at the time of the accident. Speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash, they added.
The crash remains under investigation, and the child's name will not be released.
The Iron County Sheriff's Department and Northstar Ambulance assisted at the scene.
