CRYSTAL FALLS - Suspended Crystal Falls City Manager Charles Nordeman resigned Monday night during a special closed session of the Crystal Falls city council.
Nordeman previously had requested a public hearing regarding his suspension. The public hearing, originally scheduled for today, has been cancelled.
According to a joint press release from the city council and Nordeman's attorney Steven L. Pence of Marquette, the city offered a six-month severance package to Nordeman in exchange for a full release of all claims.
The city council was represented by attorney Geoffrey Lawrence of Crystal Falls.
Nordeman was suspended on Oct. 12 by a 3-2 vote of the city council. Mayor Janet Hendrickson, and council members Jeff Hagglund and Mike Smokevitch voted in favor of the suspension, while council members Jim Burke and Jack Bicigo voted against it.
Hendrickson said that Nordeman's suspension was related to the "financial deterioration of the city of Crystal Falls." She added that the situation was "not related to embezzlement in any way."
Both the city and Nordeman wished to express their relief that this difficult matter was behind them.
