SPREAD EAGLE, Wis. - Barbara Jean VanOss, 64, of Spread Eagle, passed away Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, at her home.
She was born on Feb. 27, 1945, in Ironwood and was the daughter of the late Oscar and Hazel Nicholson. Barb graduated from Marenisco High School and attended beauty school where she received her degree in cosmetology. She owned and operated the Hairport on the corner of Woodward and Wilson Avenue in Kingsford Heights for many years.
She married Gary VanOss on May 26, 1991.
Barb was member of the Board of Cosmetology and Pine Grove Country Club. She enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and playing golf. She especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends on her pontoon boat on the Menominee River Badwater. She will be sadly missed by the hunting crew from camp Six Pac, Floyd, Clinton, Brock, Brian and Donnie VanOss.
Barb is survived by her husband, Gary; her children, James Dean of Spread Eagle and Robin Dean of Iron Mountain; a sister, Marge (Norman) Ahola of Wakefield; stepsons, Paul (Kelly) VanOss of Southgate, Mich. and Chris (Gina) VanOss of Cabot, Ark; step-grandchildren, Ryan, Brandon, Jennifer, Jacob, Jose and Trenton VanOss; her father-in-law, Floyd VanOss of Channing; sisters-in-law, Joanne (Ed) Dennis of Kingsford, Janet (Roger) Roell of Channing and Jeanne (Angelo) Bortolini of Kewaunee, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Jerri and Norma; a stepdaughter, Jennifer VanOss; and her mother-in-law, Marie VanOss.
