Fly fishers meet Thursday

SPREAD EAGLE, Wis. - Northwoods Fly Fishers will will meet Thursday, Jan. 14, at the El Capitan Supper Club in Spread Eagle

Dinner (optional) will be at 5:30 p.m. and the meeting will start at 7 p.m.

Anyone interested in fly fishing or fly tying is invited to attend, at no obligation.

U.P. trappers group to meet in Merriman

IRON MOUNTAIN - At this month's District 3 meeting of the U.P. Trapper's Association, Bob Steinmetz will be showing members and guests how to trap beaver in the short, open-water, spring season - drawing on his nearly 40 years of beaver trapping experience.

The meeting and beaver demo will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, at the United Sportsmen Club in Merriman.

In the business portion of the meeting, there will be election of officers and last-minute planning for the Feb. 6 trappers workshop to be held in Hermansville. This annual workshop is designed for children and adults who are interested in learning to trap.

John Rowe of St. Charles, Mo. and John Chapman of Kingsford, scored their bucks within 24 hours of each other on Nov. 15 and 16 near Bruce Crossing.

Winter outdoors program offered for women

MARQUETEE - Women seeking the opportunity to improve their outdoor skills are invited to register for the 10th annual Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) winter program, set for Feb. 26-28 in Big Bay, 30 miles north of Marquette.

The program will be held at Bay Cliff Health Camp, offering instruction in more than a dozen kinds of outdoor activities.
