FLORENCE, Wis.- Fisher Lake will be host to the Commonwealth Sportsmen's Club 8th annual fishing derby on Saturday, Jan. 23.
The derby is scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m. and will conclude at 3:30 p.m.
There are two categories in which anglers can register their fish. The categories are for panfish and northern pike, with a $100 cash prize being awarded in each. Second place in each category will receive $75, and third place $25.
Fish will be registered by length. In the event of a tie, the fish will be weighed to determine the winner.
In addition to the derby, there is a free children's derby from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.. A section of the lake will be cordoned off. The children's derby is open to youngsters 12 and under and is sponsored by the First National Bank of Niagara.
First place in the kid's derby will receive a $100 savings bond. Second place will be awarded a $75 savings bond, and third place will receive a $50 bond. All participants will receive a trophy, courtesy of Franklin Trophies and Awards.
Wolf Pack Adventures Professional Fishing Guides will also be present, offering a demonstration of fishing equipment provided by Frabill, Jiffy, Lowrance, Polaris and Coleman.
Tickets to enter the derby are $5 and can be purchased at Kelley's Discount Liquor, Dina-Mia Restaurant, The Filling Station Bar and Grill, Florence Sport & Bait and other sponsoring businesses.
Food and refreshments will be available throughout the event in the derby tent. A warming fire will also be available in the parking lot for anglers and visitors to warm up from a day on the ice.
Door prizes will also be awarded, with tickets available for $1 on sale at the boat landing. Prizes will be awarded every hour.
