IRON MOUNTAIN- Two wildfires occurred in the northern portion of Dickinson County on Tuesday afternoon.

North Breitung Fire Department and the Felch Fire Department responded.

Allan Keto, resource protection manager for the Michigan Department of Natural Resources in the U.P., said approximately four acres behind the Felch DNR field office burned, which was caused by debris burning.

Felch Fire Chief Darrell Oman said the fire started at 2:30 p.m. and was located off the Calumet Mine Road.

"A guy was burning debris, and it got out of control," he said.

Breitung Fire Chief Jeff Iverson said a fire call came in at 12:40 p.m. Tuesday when a resident on Peterson Drive was burning debris in his yard and the fire got away. Iverson said there were no structures involved.

Keto said eight acres were burned in the Breitung Township wildfire.

North Breitung cleared the scene at 1:53 p.m.
