IRON MOUNTAIN - A Michigan Crossbow Federation has been formed to educate hunters, crossbow shooters and the public about the crossbow and all archery as an effective modern hunting and game management method.
The federation will work with all clubs and hunters to provide education, promote safe hunting and defend against threats to the sport.
Throughout the year, there will be fun competition shoots in different parts of the state.
The state club will help recruit young hunters and retain the aging hunter population.
Membership dues are $15 per year. Members will be able to vote on issues and programs, receive a quarterly newsletter e-mail with local items of interest, hunting stories and submitted photos. Hardy copy newsletters will be mailed to those without internet. Members will be able to list items for the classified section and post hunting and fishing swaps.
The local contact person is Jim Snowdon of Hamilton Lakes, a member of the board of directors. Snowdon, who has Michigan Crossbow Federation membership blanks available, may be reached at (906) 282-0135.
Hunters are encouraged to give him a call and get in on the ground floor of this fast-growing hunting sport in Michigan.
