HARRIS - May 15-16 are the dates of the U.P Spring Sports Show to be held at the Island Resort & Casino located on U.S. 2 in Harris.

This indoor-outdoor event will feature retail exhibitors, seminars and activities related to fishing, hunting and outdoor recreation in the Upper Peninsula and northeast Wisconsin.

Activities will include product demonstrations, a full seminar schedule and many prizes.

Among the special features are a U.S. Coast Guard rescue boat and a hydro-jet canoe.

The show will be open to the public on Saturday, May 15, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (Eastern time) and Sunday, May 16, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The show is at the south entrance of the Island Resort & Casino complex. Admission is free and the first 200 attendees will get a free fishing lure.

Spring stretch

John W. and Frances Jamar of Iron Mountain noticed a fox stretching outside their kitchen door earlier this spring. The fox is a frequent visitor to the Pinewood Court area, the Jamars said.

Randville visitor

Wayne Theisen of Randville snapped a photo recently of a young bear trying to reach a bird feeder near Theisen's home and property along M-95. The feeder is about eight feet above the ground. The bear had problems getting past a "squirrel stopper" on the post, Theisen said. It jumped to the ground and so far hasn't returned.
