Ottawa campgrounds now open

May 22, 2010
The Daily News

IRONWOOD - The Ottawa National Forest's campgrounds are now open for the season.

The Ottawa National Forest offers a wide spectrum of camping experiences from developed to rustic, and provides both tent and trailer camp sites at all of our campgrounds.

All camping is on a first-come, first-served bases, with few exceptions. Many of our campgrounds are operated under permit by David Thomas, Lawn & Snow Outdoor Maintenance of Iron River.

Campgrounds operated under concessionaire permit include the Golden Lake and Lake Ottawa campgrounds in the Iron River district.

A nightly fee is charged at these campgrounds and prices range from $10 to $14.

For those individuals craving a more rustic experience, the Ottawa offers several campgrounds with limited services that are free of charge. Campers will need to bring their own water and pack out any garbage.

To learn more about the campgrounds and other opportunities for camping across the forest, please visit www.fs.usda.gov/ottawa or call any of the local Forest Service offices.
