Parades, fireworks for Fourth

Community celebrations to take place today, Sunday

IRON MOUNTAIN - Those wishing to see parades and fireworks for the Fourth of July will be able to do so both today and Sunday.

Wausaukee, Wis., and Hermansville are holding parades today. There will be fireworks tonight in Goodman, Wis., and Hermansville.

Parades and fireworks on Sunday, the Fourth of July, will be held in Norway, Iron Mountain-Kingsford, Sagola-Channing, Foster City and throughout Iron County. Florence will also hold fireworks at dusk on Sunday.

... Goodman's fifth annual Family Fun Fest is being held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and Sunday at Hilbert Lake at Goodman Town Park. A fireworks display will be at dusk on Saturday. Park passes are required.

... A parade will start at 11 a.m. today as part of Wausaukee's American Legion July 4 Freedom Celebration.

... Hermansville's Independence Day Celebration will be held today from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Hermansville Lake and Park. A parade starts at 10 a.m.

There will be a classic car show from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the IXL Historical Museum and the 18th annual William Anderson Sports & Recreation Club Mud Runs will be held at Hermansville Lake at noon.

In addition, there will be music with Whitens & Friends and Midnight Highway. The Meyer Township Volunteer Fire Department will light off fireworks at dusk.

... Two parades, kiddies and main, will be held in Norway, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

Following the parade, the Norway City Band will perform a concert at the City Band Shell.

Norway Volunteer Fire Department will launch fireworks from Norway Hill at dusk.

... At 1 p.m. Sunday will be the Iron Mountain-Kingsford Independence Day Parade will step off.

The parade will proceed north on Balsam Avenue to Woodward Avenue; down Woodward Avenue to Carpenter Avenue; from Carpenter Avenue to H Street past the VA Medical Center, then dispersing in the Midtown Mall parking lot or onto Stephenson Avenue.

... A fireworks display will be launched on the south side of Millie Hill in Iron Mountain at dusk.

Prior to the fireworks, the Dickinson Area Band will hold a concert at Lake Antoine Park from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

... The Sagola Township Volunteer Fire Department will again host the Independence Day parade and township picnic at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.

After the parade, the traditional township Fourth of July picnic will be at the Sagola Sportsmans Club on Edey Lake, four miles north of Channing on Sawyer Lake Road.

... A parade will be held on Sunday in Foster City, beginning at 12:30 p.m. The parade starts at the Waucedah Road and travels down to Breen Township Fire Hall. A softball game with Felch Township Fire Department vs. Breen Township Fire Department will be held in Foster City following the parade.

Fireworks will be at dusk at the Felch Township Community Center.

... A parade will be held in Iron River at 2 p.m. Sunday. The parade will start at the West Iron County High School campus, go north on Washington Avenue to Genesee Street, then go west on Genesee to Fifth Avenue, and then through downtown Iron River.

Following the parade, the West Iron County Fire Department will host children's races outside its fire hall on Ninth Avenue, a few blocks north of U.S. 2. There will be running races, sack races and three-legged races.

The annual fireworks display will be lit off at the north end of Stambaugh Airport at 10 p.m.

... Alpha's flag-raising ceremony will be at 9 a.m. Sunday, near Village Hall. The parade starts at 9:30 a.m.

The pavilion will be the site of many events all day: a coin scramble at 11 a.m., kids races at 1 p.m. (wheelbarrow, sack, three-legged and egg races), a horseshoe tournament at 2 p.m. and egg toss for those 12 and over at 3:30 p.m.

There also will be music at the pavilion, performed by two bands, Crossroads and Stager.

... Amasa's Fourth of July starts with an ecumenical church service at 9:30 a.m. at the fire hall.

The flag-raising ceremony at Hemlock River Park, just south of the downtown area on Old 141, starts at 10:30 a.m. At 11 a.m., races will be held for kids up to 12 years old, followed by a coin scramble. For adults, there will be hay bale races for the women and cross-cut sawing for both men and women.

Crackerjack and ice cream will be available at the fire hall at 1 p.m., and the annual softball game starts at 2 p.m.

... The Ski-Ters will present water ski shows at 2 p.m. today and at 6 p.m. Sunday. Shows are held at Vagabond Park off U.S. 2 in Spread Eagle, Wis. Admission is free.
