CRYSTAL FALLS - No one was injured in a two-vehicle accident that occurred Friday afternoon in Crystal Falls.

Denise Marie Decremer, 46, of Vulcan was operating a Chevrolet Corvette near the intersection of U.S. 2 and Briar Hill Avenue when she collided with a Ford F-250 pickup truck driven by a 16-year-old youth from Crystal Falls.

Deputies from the Iron County Sheriff's Department reported that both drivers were uninjured, but Decremer's vehicle sustained extensive damage.

Severe traffic congestion caused by ongoing highway work was noted as a contributing factor in the crash, said deputies.

Highway construction and sewer improvements are currently under way on U.S. 2 from 6th Street in Crystal Falls to the U.S. 141 junction in Crystal Falls Township

Iron County Sheriff Mark Valesano said that all vehicles and pedestrians should be extremely vigilant while traveling through the construction area.

"Limited sight distances, large earth moving and construction equipment constantly on the move, unexpected roadway hazards, and the many construction workers on the job in the area are all a recipe for trouble if one becomes distracted, if only for a moment," he said. "Drive defensively and get to your destination safe."
