CRYSTAL FALLS - The deadline is approaching to enter the 4th annual Great Sno-Bear Biathlon sponsored by the Iron County 4-H Shooters Club and hosted by The Listening Inn in Crystal Falls.
The race combines shooting sports and classical cross-country skiing. It is a timed event with minutes added or subtracted for hits and missed targets.
The first event, for adults and juniors (ages 14-17), will be held Saturday, Feb. 26, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
An event for children ages 10 to 13 will begin at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 27.
The deadline to enter is Saturday, Feb. 5.
Fees are $18 for adults, $16 for juniors and $14 for children. All registrations include a biathlon T-shirt. Top three finishers in each category will be awarded a medal. A traveling trophy will go to each champion.
Ammunition (.22 caliber) will be provided at each station. A single-shot rifle with metal sights and a sling is required. Children will not carry their firearms.
All entrants under age 17 must have a hunter safety certificate. The Listening Inn has limited ski rentals. The 4-H Shooters Club will have rifles available.
